After finishing at Maroubra Bay High School, Sydney, I completed an apprenticeship in Electrical Fitting and furthered my tertiary education by doing Electronics and Communications Engineering. | |
| I joined the RAAF, Number 22, Citizen Airforce Squadron,
at Richmond NSW, as an Electrical Fitter remaining with them for seven
years. This was the beginning of my great desire to fly. I really wanted
to fly this equipment rather than fix it !
After completing my apprenticeship I worked for various companies in research, development and design in the electronics industry. I spent the last five years in the electronics industry working as a civilian Engineer with the Department of Navy at Neutral Bay, North Sydney, in the Royal Australian Naval Torpedo Establishment. (RANTE). Whilst there, I was sent me to Seattle in the USA, to be trained on the introduction, support and training for a new torpedo that was being introduced by the RAN at that time. This was my first trip overseas and cemented my desire to travel. I was also very active in Music, playing Piano and Organ in many clubs and functions around Sydney. The income from this also financed my flying training. I learned to fly at Bankstown, NSW, at "Chieftain Aviation". After obtaining a Commercial Licence I resigned from both the RAAF and the Department of Navy to go flying! I was first employed by a one man company called "Wilston Aviation" in Hughenden, North Queensland and found a whole new Australia in my travels around the Queensland "outback!" My next position was at "Rundle Air Service" in Townsville, working as a Charter Pilot for about a year, followed by seven years with Bush Pilots Airways (BPA), based in Townsville, Cairns and Brisbane, the company was eventually absorbed by TAA and then Qantas. Whilst there I became a DC3 Captain and later joined Air Niugini, the National Airline of Papua New Guinea, moving to Port Moresby in 1980. I commenced flying a Fokker F27 and got my Initial Command with them on a De Havilland "Dash-7" then later a Fokker F28 after which I was based back in Cairns. In 1988 I moved to International operations and was then transferred back to Brisbane to fly an Airbus A300 that was leased from TAA (Qantas). The following year we went to Airbus industries in Toulouse, France, to do the Ground School and initial type rating on the which I currently fly. We operate mainly in South East Asia, Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia. I was also seconded to Bulgaria and Vietnam during this time. Over the years I have flown many types including DC3, Fokker F27, Dash-7, Fokker F28, and many light aircraft. I recently acquired a Boeing 727 Type Rating in the USA with a US Airline Transport Pilot Licence. My Interests, apart from Flying, are Computers, Web Page design, Music, Scuba Diving, Entertaining and Travelling around the world. The Year 2000 brings a new business into my life as I start an MBE Business Support centre Franchise with "MBE" "Making Business Easier", which will operate from West End Central in West End Brisbane. Details of this will follow.
The Grand Opening of MBE West End was on 1st December, 2000 and opened by Councillor Tim Quinn, the Deputy Mayor of Brisbane.
